#caseyandcranbournevethospital HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY. Today is the day to celebrate dogs and the love and joy they bring to our lives. The following pups are just starting out with their pet parents and through puppy preschool have learnt basic training techniques and socialisation that will help them grow into well rounded adult dogs. In order we have Loki the Siberian Husky, Luna the Labrador, Maple the Golden Retriever, Butter the British Bulldog, Freddie the Groodle, Bruno the Rottweiler, Muffin the Labrador and last but not least we have Mack the Staffy. Congratulations to all our Puppy Preschool Graduates, we look forward to seeing you all at CCVH as you grow and develop into adulthood.

In celebration of this day, it’s fitting to post our latest puppy preschool graduates. We had 8 adorable puppies in our smallies class. Please join me in congratulating (in order) Ralph the Whippet, Murphy the Maltese ShihTzu, Willow the Cavoodle, Pip the Miniature Schnauzer, Louie the Cavoodle, Rezy the Miniature Schnauzer, Remi the Maltese and last but not least Ozzy the Whippet. #caseyandcranbournevethospital Meet some more cute pups we have had in this week. First up we have Pip, the 13wo sweet, gentle Miniature Schnauzer pup. Next we have Gertie the 16 wo Cavoodle who is as cute as a button. Last but certainly not least we have Chad, the handsome 15 wo Rottie pup who posed beautifully for his liver treats and whilst gobbling them up, didn’t even notice his vaccination being given!

#caseyandcranbournevethospital We have been spoilt lately with an abundance of adorable puppies coming in for their vaccinations and health check. Here is just a small selection. First up we have Willow, the cute Cavoodle pup who happens to be the only female in this selection. Then for the boys, in order we have Loki, the handsome Husky, Ozzy the wonderful Whippet, Mack the sweet Staffy, Charlie the jovial JRT and last but certainly not least, Muffin the lovable Labrador pup. We can’t wait to watch them all grow up and develop their own individual personalities.

#caseyandcranbournevethospital This is Freddie, the adorable 13wo groodle before and after puppy preschool….. he had a ball last weekend playing in the rain with the other puppies! After being given a quick towel dry at the clinic, he was going home for a bath and no doubt would have slept for the rest of the day! We run our puppy preschool class outside on the grass in a dedicated, secure puppy preschool area, allowing puppies room to explore and socialise and we run the classes regardless of the weather. Puppies don’t mind a little bit of mud, just don’t forget to bring towels for the car ride home!

#caseyandcranbournevethospital Meet Mac, the adorable kitten rescued and hand raised by one of our staff who has now found his forever home. He is such a cutie and we look forward to seeing him back in the clinic for cuddles as he grows up into a handsome adult cat!

#caseyandcranbournevethospital We had gorgeous Piper, the French bulldog in for a Caesarian on Monday. She was scheduled for an elective Caesarian on Tuesday to deliver the 8 pups visible on xray but started showing signs of labour early on Monday. Dr Yuen, our brilliant ultrasonographer checked the foetal heart rates (using our cardiac ultrasound probe) and found that the heart rates were dropping (indicating foetal distress) so we prepared for an emergency Caesarian. Thanks to the amazing efforts of Dr Yuen and the whole nursing team at CCVH, we delivered 8 beautiful, healthy pups-5 male and 3 female. Despite this being Piper’s first litter, she took to motherhood extremely well and allowed all her brood to latch on and have a good drink before she was discharged from hospital. Both mum and pups are thriving and we can’t wait to see these little bundles of joy back in for their vaccinations and microchips in 6 weeks time!

#caseyandcranbournevethospital Did you know that’s rabbits teeth continually grow and that if the teeth are crooked, the incisors (front teeth) need to be burred down regularly or removed. Meet Onyx, a sweet 2.5 yo Netherland Dwarf rabbit topping the scales at 1.3kg. He was in earlier this week to have his incisors extracted by Dr Leanne. It was getting to the stage where Onyx was having his incisors burred every 3 weeks just so he could open his mouth to eat. Rabbit dentistry is very delicate and requires patience and special dental tools to ensure the incisors are extracted with their germinal roots so they don’t regrow. As you can see in the photo of the teeth in the jar, the incisors are extremely long and the upper ones are quite curved. Only the white part of each tooth was visible above the gumline, the rest of the each tooth (the red part) was below the gum and that is what had to be surgically extracted to ensure the whole tooth was removed. We are pleased to report that Onyx has been a model patient, tolerating his owners syringe feeding him the critical care food and 2 days post op, he started nibbling his own food which is fantastic. All the nurses are going to miss having their regular cuddles with Onyx every three weeks but he will be a much happier bunny having these problematic teeth removed!

#caseyandcranbournevethospital Meet our newest puppy school graduates. First up we have cheeky Jack, the 19wo JRT, who didn’t let his small stature stop him from socialising and playing with all the big dogs. Next up we have litter sisters Leni (golden) and Willow (black) who are golden retriever x labrador pups. Both are super cute and really came into their own in puppy school. Next we have Henry, the Boxer x Great Dane pup who at 13 wo is all gangly legs but a gentle giant. Next we have Steele, the handsome Border Collie pup who graduated at the ripe old age of 16 weeks! He was the statesman in the group and he and Jack the JRT kept each other entertained. Next we have Ollie the 14 who Groodle pup who was so shy at first but really came out of his shell by the end of puppy school. Last but certainly not least is Dudley, Dr Leanne’s 10wo golden retriever pup who joined in week two, the day after he arrived home and it was the best socialisation he could possibly have had, mixing with pups his own age. As a special treat at the end of graduation day last Saturday, all the pups got to play with Charlie, Dr Leanne’s 2yo Golden Retriever. It was particularly helpful for Ollie the groodle who is yet to meet adult dogs, being able to socialise with a large adult dog in a safe environment. Our next puppy preschool class starts next Saturday and runs for 4 weeks, for puppies aged between 8-14 weeks at the start of the course, as long as they have all had at least their first vaccination (usually given at 6wo whilst with the breeder). Puppy preschool is an excellent place for puppies to learn the basics and to socialise in a safe manner. We encourage all family members, including children to attend. #caseyandcranbournevethospital We had a very special litter of pups come into the clinic this week for their vaccinations and microchips. Meet Charlie’s nephew, Dudley (first photos) and Dudley’s 7 sisters. All the pups were so chilled after their vaccinations and fell asleep on the floor until Uncle Charlie came in to meet them then they all rolled on top of him and took turns chewing on his lead! Charlie was so gentle and tolerant with all the pups and it gave Mumma Millie a few moments respite. What Charlie doesn’t know is he will be gaining a permanent playmate when Dudley joins Dr Leanne and Richard’s family in two weeks time!

#caseyandcranbournevethospital Congratulations to our latest Puppy Preschool graduates. They were a mix of small and large breed puppies and they all got along so well and all gained so much from the class. In photo order we have Reginald the Groodle, Daisy the Moodle, Archie the GSD, Alfie and Monty, both border collies brothers from the same litter, Millie the Aussie Shepherd, Oakley the Rottie, Nala the Cane Corso and last but definitely not least Oscar the sweet little Jack Russell Terrier. Our next class starts this coming Saturday and there are still a few places left. #caseyandcrambournevethospital. We have had so many gorgeous puppies in the clinic recently. Here are just a few…. First up we have sleeping Norman, the Labrador x Golden Retriever pup. Next we have Kobe, the alert Shetland Sheepdog. Then we have cutie pie Layla, the little Frenchie. Next we have handsome Bailey, the Labrador pup. Sweet little Quinn the Shih Tzu is next. Then we have Harlow the Spoodle pup who needed the moral support of her older Spoodle bro Hamish. Last but not least we have naughty Ollie the Dachshund pup who came in for his check up after needing emergency surgery to remove a toys ear from his intestine when he was only 10 weeks old….let’s hope all the other pups featured aren’t as mischievous as Ollie!!

This is an appropriate time to congratulate our final puppy school graduates for the year who sat beautifully to be photographed on our Christmas bench set up at the clinic. First up we have Eevee the sweet little border collie cross owned by nurse Maddi who loves chewing on Charlie’s ears and stealing his deer antler. We also have Willow, the beautiful Great Dane pup owned by nurse Ash who loves nothing better than falling asleep in the office after playing with Charlie-as long as she can steal his bed! Looking forward to seeing them growing up (and having lots of cuddles of course)!
