PUPPY PRE-SCHOOL
Give your furry friend the best start with our puppy pre-school in Cranbourne
If you’ve just got a new puppy, it’s important to socialise and train them from an early age to ensure you end up with a well-behaved dog that gets along with other animals. Rachel, one of our qualified veterinary nurses at Casey and Cranbourne Veterinary Hospital, runs our Puppy Pre-school that allows the entire family to join in with training their new pet.
Designed to be fully interactive and a whole lot of fun, our Puppy Pre-school is aimed at puppies aged between eight and 14 weeks old, as this is the optimal age to begin training. Anyone can attend the classes, so even if you don’t normally come to our veterinary clinic, you can still benefit from the pre-school.
Why Puppy Pre-School?
Training your puppy at an early age is key to supporting their development into a well-behaved and sociable adult dog, as it educates them about what’s acceptable behaviour. Our puppy classes are the perfect place to teach your puppy these important life skills – in the company of a small number of other puppies and in a safe and secure environment. Owners can also learn about caring for their puppy now and into the future.
What does it cover?
Puppy Pre-school lasts for four weeks and will address the following areas:
- Socialisation
- House training
- Discipline
- Obedience training
- Grooming
- Fleas
- Exercise requirements
- What to do in emergencies
- Dentistry
Using positive reinforcement in all training, we’ll also look at any specific problems you may have as well as answering general questions.
When are classes held?
The classes take place on Saturday mornings from 9:30am – 10:30am at Casey at Cranbourne Veterinary Hospital, 188 High Street, Cranbourne.
How old should my puppy be?
Puppies attending Puppy Pre-school should be between eight to 14 weeks old, as this is the best time to start training. It also means that those puppies in the class will learn alongside dogs of a similar age and won’t feel threatened.
If you have an older puppy, then just chat to our team, and we can recommend other options for socialisation and training.
IMPORTANT information
- Please bring a lead to class
- Your puppy should attend class wearing a well-fitting collar
- If we did not vaccinate your puppy, please bring their current vaccination certificate to the first class. All puppies must have had their first vaccination, with C3 being the minimum requirement, and we recommend the C5 vaccination for optimal cover
- As the classes are held outside, please bring appropriate clothing for the weather. If it’s raining, the classes will take place indoors at the hospital
- Puppies like to sleep after a meal, and they are less responsive to treats, which are used as a form of positive reinforcement during class, so please don’t feed your puppy before the training session
