Dr Tania McGuire

BVSc (Hons)
Veterinarian

Providing careful, thorough care for every patient

Dr Tania is one of the veterinarians at Casey and Cranbourne Veterinary Hospital. Each day, he focuses on giving patients and their owners the most thoughtful and compassionate care he can.

He enjoys the mix of problem-solving, hands-on treatment and communication that comes with veterinary work. No two cases are ever the same, and he likes the challenge that brings.

A calling that blends science and empathy

Dr Tania has loved animals for as long as he can remember. Veterinary medicine appealed to him because it brings together science, practical skills and genuine compassion. Most of his career has been in emergency and critical care, which has given him a strong foundation in both medicine and surgery. He has a growing interest in soft tissue surgery, dermatology and more recently, dentistry. His approach is calm, thorough and centred on improving the quality of life of the animals he sees.

“I always care for each patient as if they were my own.”

A case that still makes his smile

One case he often thinks about involved an older Labrador who arrived in emergency late one evening. The owners were worried because their dog had stopped eating, which is always a concern for a Labrador. Scans revealed a bowel obstruction. During surgery, Dr Tania removed three pieces of lacy underwear, each a different colour. The Labrador recovered well and walked out of the clinic wagging her tail. It is a memory that reminds Dr Tania how unpredictable and rewarding veterinary work can be.

What makes the clinic special

For Dr Tania, the clinic stands out because of the people who work there. The hospital is well equipped and thoughtfully designed, but what matters most is the way the team operates together. He sees vets, nurses and receptionists stepping in for each other, sharing knowledge and helping clients with genuine warmth. There is no ego, just a shared desire to provide the best care possible. That collaborative spirit is something he deeply values.

Life outside the clinic

Outside of work, Dr Tania enjoys painting and writing. Oils are his favourite medium, although he usually works with watercolour because it suits his schedule better. He is slowly writing his second book. Dr Tania also likes to stay active with low-impact training after years of long-distance running. At home, he has Percy, the Great Dane cross who weighs around sixty kilos, and Sophia, a Ragdoll cross. They get along well and usually end up sharing the same bed.
