Supporting You and Your Pet Through a Difficult Time

When You’re Facing Hard Decisions

Knowing that your pet’s time may be coming to an end is incredibly painful. Many owners tell us they feel overwhelmed, unsure, or worried about making the wrong decision. These feelings are normal, and you don’t need to face them alone.

Our role is to listen and support you, not to rush you or decide for you. We are here to talk things through, answer questions and help you understand what your pet may be experiencing, so you can make decisions that feel right for them and for you.

“Our role is to support you and your pet with care, honesty and compassion, every step of the way.”

Focusing on Comfort and Quality of Life

When a pet is nearing the end of their life, the focus often shifts from treatment to comfort. Many owners notice changes such as more bad days than good, withdrawal from family, reduced appetite, difficulty moving or changes in breathing. These signs can be confronting, but they can also help guide conversations about quality of life.

In some cases, comfort care can help maintain quality of life for weeks or months. This may include pain relief and supportive medications. We will talk through what options are available and what they might realistically achieve, so expectations are clear and grounded.

What to Expect When the Time Comes

If you decide that euthanasia is the kindest option, we aim to make the experience as calm and respectful as possible. The appointment is unhurried. We explain each step, place a catheter gently, and give you time with your pet. When you are ready, your pet is given medication that allows them to drift off peacefully.

You may notice movements, breaths or sounds as the body shuts down. These can be upsetting if unexpected, but they are not a sign of pain. Once your pet has passed, we confirm this quietly and give you privacy to say goodbye in your own time.

Quick Answers to Common Questions

How do I know when it might be time to say goodbye?

Many owners notice more bad days than good, changes in behaviour, or a loss of enjoyment in things their pet once loved. If you’re unsure, we can talk this through with you.

Can you help me decide what’s best for my pet?

Yes. We can talk with you by phone, email or in person. Our role is to support your decision, not make it for you.

What happens during a euthanasia appointment?

The appointment is calm and unhurried. We explain what to expect, give you time with your pet, and ensure they pass peacefully.

Will my pet feel pain during euthanasia?

No. The medication allows your pet to drift off gently. Any movements or sounds are part of the body shutting down, not pain.

What aftercare options are available?

Options include home burial where permitted, shared cremation or individual cremation. We can also arrange paw prints or a lock of fur if you wish.

Do you support families from areas like Narre Warren South and Cranbourne West?

Yes. We regularly support families from Narre Warren South, Cranbourne West and surrounding areas, and understand how important it is to feel supported close to home during this time.
