Advanced Imaging within Everyday Veterinary Care
When something isn’t quite right, uncertainty can be one of the hardest parts for pet owners. Symptoms don’t always point neatly to a single cause, and waiting without answers can feel unsettling.
Advanced imaging exists at Casey & Cranbourne Veterinary Hospital for exactly these moments. It allows us to look beyond what’s visible on the surface, gather clearer information, and decide next steps with confidence rather than assumption.
Our approach is deliberately measured. We use diagnostic imaging to answer specific clinical questions, rather than by default. That may include in-house X-rays and ultrasound, or access to advanced imaging such as CT scans when greater detail will genuinely change the direction of care. When imaging won’t add value, we’ll explain why and pause.
“Advanced imaging is as much about knowing when to pause as it is about knowing when to proceed.”
Before any imaging is performed, we take time to explain what we’re looking for and why. Preparation varies depending on the type of imaging required and your pet’s individual needs.
Some pets require little preparation. Others may benefit from fasting, gentle sedation, or specific timing to ensure images are accurate and the experience is as calm as possible. If sedation or anaesthesia is recommended, we’ll talk you through the reasoning, the safety measures in place, and what recovery looks like.
Our aim is to reduce stress for both pets and owners, and to ensure every imaging study is purposeful and considered.
Imaging is never treated as a standalone event. Our veterinary team works collaboratively to interpret findings in the context of your pet’s overall health, history, and current symptoms.
During imaging, patients are closely monitored by experienced staff, with comfort and safety always front of mind.
Once results are available, we take the time to explain what we’ve found, what it means, and what options exist – whether that involves treatment, monitoring, surgery, referral, or reassurance. The goal is clarity and direction.
If you’re considering diagnostic imaging for your pet and would like help deciding whether it’s the right next step, our team is here to talk it through with you calmly and honestly.
Your pet’s care is supported by a highly experienced team who provide everything from routine check ups and preventative care, to advanced diagnostics, surgery and dentistry. We take a careful, thorough approach to every case and keep you informed at each step, so your pet receives reliable, compassionate care throughout their life.
Whether your pet needs everyday health support, or help with a more complex condition, our team work together to provide clear answers and thoughtful treatment in a calm, modern hospital.

No. Many conditions can be thoroughly assessed with consultation, blood tests, X-rays, or ultrasound. Advanced imaging, such as CT, is only recommended when it adds meaningful information or changes decision-making.
Not always. Ultrasound is excellent for many soft‑tissue questions. CT scans are used when different details are needed, particularly in complex areas or for precise planning.
This depends on the type of imaging and your pet’s comfort. If sedation or anaesthesia is recommended, we’ll explain why and how we manage safety throughout the process.
Results are discussed clearly with you. We explain what was found, what it means, and talk through appropriate next steps so decisions feel informed rather than overwhelming.
Yes. We regularly see pets from Cranbourne, Cranbourne West, Cranbourne South, Clyde, Devon Meadows and surrounding suburbs.
If a case requires care beyond what’s appropriate to manage in-house, we’ll discuss referral options and support you through that process.
