Alexandra Gilbert

Studying Cert IV Vet Nursing
Veterinary Nurse

Learning and growing in a busy hospital environment

Alexandra is a Trainee Veterinary Nurse at Casey and Cranbourne Veterinary Hospital. She is building her skills each day and learning how to support patients through their treatments.

She is especially enjoying her time in theatre. Assisting in surgery, watching procedures and helping patients through their recovery has become one of the most rewarding parts of her training.

A long-held love of animals

Alexandra always knew she wanted to be around animals. Her interest in their care and well-being eventually led her to begin formal training. She has completed her Certificate II in Animal Studies and is now working towards her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. She is keen to learn as much as she can from the nurses and vets around her and values the guidance they offer.

“I love learning new skills and being part of each patient’s journey.”

A team that supports each other

One of the things that stands out most to Alexandra is how much responsibility the veterinary nurses carry. Being part of a team with such varied skills has helped her learn quickly and gain confidence. She appreciates the way everyone works together and how willing the team is to teach, encourage and answer questions along the way. Her teammates describe her as hardworking and positive, and she brings that attitude with her into each shift.

Life outside the clinic

Outside of work, Alexandra is continuing her studies and spending time with friends and family. As she moves further into her nursing career, she hopes to develop more interests within surgery and expand her hands-on skills with patients.

Quick Answers to Common Questions

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring any previous vet records, current medications and notes about your pet’s diet, behaviour or recent changes.

Do you offer same-day appointments?

Yes. We reserve a number of same day consultations for urgent concerns. Please call early so we can help you as soon as possible.

Can I get repeat medications?

Yes. Repeat prescriptions can be requested by phoning the clinic. Some medications may require a check-up first to ensure they are still appropriate and safe for your pet.

Do you have in-house blood testing and imaging?

Yes. We offer full blood testing onsite, along with X ray and ultrasound, plus access to mobile CT for more complex cases.

What if my pet has an emergency?

Call us straight away as you are making your way to the clinic, giving a brief description of the emergency so we can be prepared for your pet’s arrival. Depending on the emergency, in certain circumstances, we may direct you to the nearest 24 hour emergency centre.

How Long Are Your Consultations?

Our consults are longer than standard appointments. This gives us time to examine your pet carefully, talk through our findings and answer any questions without rushing.
